Alcohol and Other Drugs Outreach Program
The QuIHN Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Outreach (Vulnerable Populations) Program primarily works with referrals from the Hospital and Health Service (HHS) area and provides an outpatient case management and counselling service with the capacity to provide limited after hour’s services to those affected by alcohol and/or substance use concerns.
Peer education when applied to illicit drug use is aimed at reducing drug-related harms and promoting the health of people who use drugs through effecting changes in knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours of individual drug users, and influencing the norms and culture of drug use groups.
Cairns Counselling Service - Cairns
The Cairns Treatment Services provides clinical counselling and support to individuals who wish to address their drug use and any co-occurring mental health concerns (dual diagnosis). Counselling and support can also be provided to significant others or carers of someone with substance use and/or mental health concerns.
MudMaps Group - Cairns
MudMaps group, based in Brisbane, is a facilitated open psychosocial education group for individuals making or contemplating changes to behaviours relating to substance use (opioid, amphetamines and/or cannabis) use or the interaction of co-occurring substance and mental health (dual diagnosis).
QUIHN's Approach to Group Work
QuIHN offers a range of therapeutic and psychosocial groups for people whose lives are affected by substance use and any related mental health and/or parenting and family issues that may be present.
