The Mix-Up Project is based on a harm reduction and peer approach to education for current IDUs.  The program aims to reduce harms associated with drug use and recognises that IDUs are experts in regard to experiencing first-hand the effects of drug use, the effectiveness of harm reduction strategies, and in conveying information to peers in drug using contexts.

The Mix-Up Project aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of IDUs regarding safer drug use and safer sex behaviours.  Peer educators are encouraged and supported in sharing harm reduction information with their peers, who then continue conveying safer injecting information and behaviours to their individual networks, and so on.  A ripple effect of information distribution is created that provides the opportunity for information to reach IDUs who may not access health information otherwise, or who find credibility only in information from other IDUs.

The Mix-Up Project is designed to be dynamic, opportunistic and flexible in order to be user-friendly and to respond to changing trends in drug use and health needs of IDUs.  The content of each Mix-Up Project will change in accordance with drug trends as well as group needs, characteristics and interests identified during program planning and recruitment stages. .

Regional Training Coordinators can be contacted regarding the above mentioned education services. See the Contact Page for phone and email details. See the Veincare page for information on safer injecting.
